Neptune de Lancaumont

Neptune de Lancaumont

Drack de Lancaumont & Livia des Tigrous

Neptune, whom I called Jacques, came to our kennel from Belgium in 1990 at three months of age.  At the time we had a Malinois male called Murphy.  Murphy wasn’t particularly fond of the new puppy, which wanted close contact to the big one and finally after four days, he convinced Murphy to accept him as part of the family.

I took Jacques to 13 shows in three different countries.  He got 11 rankings, among them six times first place, four times second place and two times very good and one time good.  Several times he came out the junior champion and was chosen Club champion at the DKBS Club show in 1991 and 1992.

Club Winner 1991 & 1992

Jacques passed the SchH1 & 2 test, as well as passing the temperament test with flying colours, and being pronounced as breeding dog without restrictions.  With the temperament test he was rated Best of the Day.  No wonder in that, his character was universally admired.

I put him together with Paerle twice.  The litters amounted to eight puppies; F-litter 0/3 and J-litter with 5/0 puppies.  Another mating trial with a bitch from Denmark from the Bjarkarima Kennel didn’t come about.  Jacques was helpful in the upbringing of puppies.  He had a fantastic way of dealing with the offspring.   They always gathered around him.

Jacques’ greatest quality was his character.  I have never seen such a male Malinois like him.  He was without exception positive and open towards any stranger, never aggressive with other males, but exuding an air of supremacy that made any rowdy think twice before challenging him.

This picture was shot in 1994 at a DKBS Special Championship Breed show in Heideck, where his daughter, Fame vom Schwarzen Ulan, was awarded club junior champion.

acques died of an overdose of fertilizer he discovered in my own garden, on account of the gate not being properly closed.  The pet clinic to where I had taken him to be cared for had probably misjudged his condition.
Two days later I brought him home from the clinic dead.  He didn’t even reach the age of eight.  At that time I would have given everything to have had a new dog like him again.  But after a day passed, I realized I was only trying to replace him or to fill the void that he’d left.

But Jacques can’t be replaced and so he will have been the only Malinois male I ever had.

There won’t ever be a successor.
